Czerny-Stefanska: Concertos by Beethoven Op. 19 & Grieg Op. 16 - Muza SXL 0107
Jacket VG / LP EX / Polish pressing
This fine LP from Muza · Polskie Nagrania (SXL 0107, Polish pressing, blue label, stereo) features Halina Czerny-Stefanska in splendid performances of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in B-flat Major Op. 19 and Grieg’s Piano Concerto in A minor Op. 16, both recorded with conductor Jan Krenza and the Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra circa 1960.
Czerny-Stefanska, whose Chopin E minor was once famously (and erronously) attributed to Lipatti, is an artist whose recorded legacy is richly deserving of systematic re-issue and renewed appreciation on disc.
There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Borys Frydrychowicz, printed in both Polish and English. The striking cover design is uncredited.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear, minor bumping at corners, and a small bit of writing to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. Those requiring a flawless or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this is an excellent collector's copy.
