Cortot: Chopin 14 Waltzes (rec. London, 1934) - La Voz de su Amo COLH 32 (ds)
Jacket VG / LP EX
This handsome LP – with the heaviest jacket I have ever encountered* – from Spanish HMV / La Voz de su Amo (COLH 32, Spanish pressing, gray label, mono, booklet included, "baguette"-style jacket, dowel spine) features Alfred Cortot's incomparable rendition of Chopin's 14 Waltzes, vividly recorded at EMI Studio No. 3, Abbey Road, London, during June 1934.
*This album (with LP, dowel spine and booklet) weighs 555g. These "baguette"-style jackets tend to be heavier to begin with, but this particular issue is especially weighty and thick – quite impressive, really.
Included with this copy is the 16-page booklet with extensive notes and musical examples by Dorel Handman, as well as a photo of Cortot, portrait of Chopin and a biography of the pianist.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of "baguette"-style jacket is VERY GOOD. There is some chipping along the edges, a nick to the upper edge, and discoloration. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid and highly attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the dowel spine is VERY GOOD. There is edgewear and discoloration to the paper sleeve, but otherwise it is in fine shape. The booklet shows light edgewear, but rates EX overall.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although surfaces are not perfectly silent, this is a fine copy and the playback remains enjoyable. However, if you must have a flawless or NM copy, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, rates as an excellent collector's copy.
