This lovely LP from London (LL 758, LP pressed by Decca in England / jacket printed in the USA, red/gold label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features the remarkable conductor Anthony Collins in a magical all-Delius program, recorded with the London Symphony Orchestra in the fabled acoustics of London’s Kingsway Hall, during 23-25 Feburary 1953.
The exact contents are as follows, all works by Frederick Delius:
Brigg Fair – An English Rhapsody
On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring
The Walk to the Paradise Garden – Intermezzo
A Song of Summer
This album was produced by Victor Olof and engineered by Kenneth Wilkinson. There are erudite and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Joan Chissell, printed in English only. The striking cover design is uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT. There is a slight wear at corners, as well as mild discoloration to the rear panel, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
