Casadesus/Barbirolli: Mozart Piano Concertos K. 467 & K. 595 - Philips A 01291 L
Jacket VG / LP VG+ / Dutch pressing
This lovely and elusive LP from Philips (A 01291 L, Dutch pressing, plum/silver Microgroove label, mono) features 2 beautiful Mozart piano concerto performances by Robert Casadesus more typically found on separate 10” blue label Columbia LP’s, but here paired together:
Piano Concerto No. 21 in C Major K. 467, with Charles Munch conducting the New York Philharmonic – rec. at Columbia, 30th Street Studio, New York, 20 December 1948
Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat Major K. 595, with Sir John Barbirolli leading the NYPO – rec. at Liederkranz Hall, New York, 3 November 1941
Well over a half century on, both performances remain among the finest on record – sparkling and highly poetic, with warm, resilient accompaniment.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is a bumping/wear at corners, as well as some creasing and discoloration (more so to the rear panel). However, there are no seamsplits, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and very attractive – overall, a very good collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD+. The surfaces are not CD silent, but in general the playback is superb – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
