Baumgartner: "Echo" Concertos (Vivaldi, Roman, etc.) - DG SLPM 138 947
$20.00 USD
Jacket VG / LP NM-
This excellent LP from Deutsche Grammophon (SLPM 138 947, German pressing, AH tulip label, stereo, original inner sleeve included) entitled "Echo-Konzerte" ("Echo Concertos") features the splendid conductor Rudolf Baumgartner and the estimable Festival Strings Lucerne in a fascinating album exploring the early evolution of the 'echo' in musical composition. Happily, this takes the form not of a dry academic exercise, but rather a quite delightful musical experience, with Baumgartner and the FSO providing pin-point articulation and a zestful exuberance that makes for a highly entertaining, and interesting, program.
In terms of the "echo effects" there are some truly magical moments in this program, particularly in the Vivaldi Concerto for 2 Violins, no doubt aided by DG's outstanding engineering.
Among the featured soloists are solo violinists Walter Prystawski and Herbert Höver.
Included are the following works:
Mozart: Divertimento in B-flat Major K. 137
Haydn: Divertimento in E-flat Major "The Echo"
Vivaldi: Concerto for 2 Violins and Orchestra in D Major "Echo Concerto"
Roman: Sinfonia XX in E minor
This is the first issue of these performances, and the jacket carries the publication date of 11/1964.
