Barshai: Vivaldi & Corelli Concerti - French EMI CVHS 905 (24-pg catalog issue)
Jacket EX / LP EX / French pressing
This fine album – a thick catalog issue – from French EMI (CVHS 905, French pressing, red/white semi-circle label, stereo) features conductor Rudolf Barshai and the Moscow Chamber Orchestra in magnificent performances of the music of Arcangelo Corelli and Antonio Vivaldi, all recorded in Paris circa 1966.
The exact contents are as follows:
Vivaldi: Concerto for Strings in D minor
Corelli: Concerto Grosso in G minor Op. 6 No. 8 “Christmas Concerto”
Corelli: Concerto Grosso in D Major Op. 6 No. 4
Vivaldi: Concerto No. 2 in G minor for Flute, Bassoon, and Strings Op. 10 No. 2 “La Notte”
> with Michel Debost (flute) and Amaury Wallez (bassoon)
Bound inside the outer sleeves of the album is a full-size, full-color, 24-page Pathé Marconi catalog entitled “Plasir Musical 1967” showcasing other albums in this series.
Incidentally, the striking cover art reproduces “Le Bassin de San Marco et l'ile San Giorgio Maggiore vus de la Piazetta”. There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Philippe Andriot, printed in English only.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the gatefold jacket is EXCELLENT. There is minor wear and creasing along the right edge of the jacket front, but really that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is light surface noise throughout, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
