Badura-Skoda: Haydn Vars in F minor, Sonatas Nos. 47 & 62 - Harmonia Mundi HM 30634
Jacket EX / LP EX / German pressing
This beautiful LP from Harmonia Mundi (HM 30634, Fono-Verlagsgesellschaft, German pressing, gold label, mono) features pianist Paul Badura-Skoda in a magnificent all-Haydn recital, warmly recorded at the Palais Schönburg, Vienna, in May 1962. For this recording Badura-Skoda played a Broadwood-Hammerflügel, London, made in 1795.
The exact program is as follows, all works by Joseph Haydn:
Piano Sonata No. 62 in E-flat Major (Hob. XVI/52)
Piano Sonata No. 47 in B minor (Hob. XVI/32)
Variations in F minor (Hob. XVII/6)
This album was produced by Dr. Alfred Krings in association with Südwest-Tonstudio, Stuttgart. There are splendid liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Eva Badura-Skoda, provided in French, German, and English. The striking cover design was executed by Winter + Bischoff, Offenbach/M.
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the glossy laminated jacket is EXCELLENT. There is bumping/wear at corners, as well as light creasing and mild discoloration to the rear panel. However, there are no seamsplits, owners' markings, or other defects, and the jacket remains perfectly solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, an excellent collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Visually, there is a small stain on each of the two labels. In terms of sound, although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, really this is a fine copy and playback is superb, close to NM. If you must have flawless or NM surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
