Jacket EX / LP EX
This beautiful LP from Decca (LXT 2555, English pressing, orange/silver label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features conductor Ernest Ansermet and the London Symphony Orchestra in a captivating account of Respighi’s La Boutique Fantasque (after music by Rossini), sumptuously recorded in the rich acoustics of Kingsway Hall, London, in July 1950.
This was one of Ansermet’s very few forays with the LSO, but the players respond brilliantly to their charismatic guest conductor, melding playing of great poetry and panache.
This album was produced by Victor Olof and engineered by Cyril Windebank. There are insightful liner notes (uncredited) on the reverse side jacket, printed in English only. The lovely cover art is similarly uncredited, alas.
