This handsome LP from Columbia Masterworks’ “Harmony Series” (HL 7247, US pressing, black/silver label, mono) features conductor Felix Weingartner and the London Philharmonic Orchestra (the jacket misattributes this recording to the LSO) in a truly magisterail account of Brahms’s Symphony No. 2 in D Major Op. 73, recorded in the fabled acoustics of Kingsway Hall, London on 26 February 1940 (producer: Walter Legge).

There are informative liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Morris Hastings, provided in English only. The striking cover portrait of Weingartner is uncredited.
