Jacket NM / LP EX
This beautiful LP from La Voce de Padrone / Italian HMV (QJLP 107, Italian pressing, cream label, mono, laminated flipback jacket) features Arturo Toscanini and the BBC Symphony Orchestra’s wonderfully vital and richly inspired account of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 in F Major Op. 68 “Pastorale”, recorded at Queen’s Hall, London, on 21-22 October 1937.
Arturo Toscanini’s held the then recently established BBC Symphony Orchestra in very high regard, as he did their chief conductor, Sir Adrian Boult. The players respond to their guest conductor with playing of power and finesse, with wonderful color and shading throughout.
There are fine liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Peter Hoffer, printed in Italian only. The memorable cover photo of Toscanini is uncredited.
CONDITION:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. There is light wear at corners and mild shelfwear, but really this is a very fine copy. There are no seamsplits, owners markings, bends, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, glossy, and highly attractive – overall, a superb collector's copy.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is light surface noise throughout, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
