Erato (LP)

Jacket GOOD / LP EX / French pressing

This beautiful LP from Erato (LDE 3212, French pressing, green/white label, mono) features György Sebök's superlative accounts of Chopin's Piano Sonatas No. 2 in B-flat minor Op. 35 'Funeral March' and No. 3 in B minor Op. 58, both recorded at the Studio Höche, Paris in November 1961. Sebok is richly deserving of renewed assessment and appreciation on disc. He is too often thought of as Janos Starker's accompanist when, in fact, he was a marvelous artist in his own right who left a fine recorded legacy for Erato.

The lovely cover photo was taken by M. van Adelmann. There are excellent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Jean Hamon, of l’Acadèmie du Disque Françias.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is GOOD. There is edgewear, particularly along the open edge and at corners, as well as aging and to the rear panel ringwear and a small bit of writing. However, there are no seamsplits or other defects, and the album remain solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, a good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though there is occasional light surface noise, in general the playback remains quite fine. However, those wanting a flawless or near-MINT copy are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
