Orphee-Pacific (LP)

Jacket: G  /  Vinyl: EX  /  French pressing

This beautiful and rare LP from Orphée / Pacific (LDO – E 51.019, French pressing, blue/silver label, mono) features Fernand Oubradous leading his chamber orchestra in remarkable renditions of Jean-Marie Leclair's Concerto No. 6 in A Major (Robert Gendre, solo violin) and Jean-Baptiste Lully's Suites No. 3 in B-flat Major and No. 7 in G minor. Among the other featured soloists are Robert Bix (cello), Jean-Pierre Rampal (flute), Pierre Pierlot (oboe) and Robert Veyron-Lecroix (harpsichord). This was music-making far ahead of its time, with some of the finest French players of the last century bringing to life music that was then little known and seldom performed. Most of the Orphee catalog remains quite elusive and highly desireable. Incidentally, the striking cover art reproduces Lubin Baugin's "Nature Morte à l'Échiquier – an outstanding, treasurable disc.
