Jacket VG / LP EX / US pressing

This handsome LP from Westminster (WST 14107, US pressing, black/red “Natural Balance” label, stereo) features Maurice Abravanel and the Vienna State Opera Orchestra’s thrilling accounts of Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture Op. 49 and Capriccio Italien Op. 45, as well as Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol Op. 34.

These remarkable performances were set down in the warm acoustics of the Mozartsaal, Konzerhaus, Vienna, on 1 April 1959. In the 1812 Oveture, conductor and orchestra are seconded by the Deutschmeister Band, an historic cannon from the Napoleonic Wars, and the Luxemburg Carrillon, all recorded in demonstration quality sound.

Incidentally, there are splendid liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by James Lyon, Editor of The American Recod Guide. The striking cover art was executed by Designers Collaborative.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is VERY GOOD. There is someedgewear and mild discoloration, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, owners' markings, bends, or other defects and the whole remains solid, bright, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, this rates as a very good collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
